Artist Spotlight
Shanalee is an embroidery artist in Portland Oregon who, among other things, uses scrap pieces of fabric and embroiders quotes, an avid reader, and posts them on electrical poles around town. Her work is beloved and we discussed photography with photographer her during a posting walk and some of my favorite images of her work I had captured over the years.
Shana had seen the zines I had made of my mundane objects and knew I was regularly photographing her work when I ran into a piece. We thought a zine would be a great way to showcase her work.
Shana and I took a walk together where I photographed her posting. I then took those photos, photographs I had taken previously of her work and a two-page essay Shana wrote about her work and created a zine using InDesign. Then I sent it to a reliable printer to have them produced.
